What is Qurbani
Qurbani translates to sacrifice and the ritual of Qurbani directly reflect back to the story of the prophet Ibrahim (as) and the sacrifice he made, as well as some of the acts of the Hajj.
“In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. So, pray to your Lord and sacrifice [to Him alone].” (Qur’an 108:2)
With International Waqf Fund, you can contribute towards a Qurbani Waqf share, feeding people fresh meat on your behalf every year.
Rules of Qurbani
Who must give Qurbani and when?
- Qurbani is mandatory on every sound-minded Muslim, who has reached the age of puberty and has wealth in excess to sustain themselves and their family.
- Qurbani must be completed within the 3 days of Eid-al-Adha.
What animals can be sacrificed?
- Sheep, goats, cows, buffalos or camels can be used for Qurbani. Sheep and goats must be at least one year in age. Cows and buffalos should be at least two years in age and Camels at least five years in age.
What conditions do the animals need to meet before the sacrifice?
- All animals must be healthy and free of disease. They must be able to walk themselves to the place of slaughter. They cannot be toothless or missing half their teeth. Nor can they be blind or one-eyed. They must not be weak on any of their legs and they cannot be too thin or too big.
- A sharp knife must be used, but must not be sharpened in front of the animal.
- Animals must not be slaughtered in front of each other and cannot be skinned until the body is fully cold.
- The sacrifice should begin with the words ‘Bismillahi Allahu Akbar’
Who is eligible to receive Qurbani meat?
- Anyone not eligible to pay zakat
- People who live on below minimum income
- Female headed households, pregnant women and breast-feeding mothers.
- Families with disabilities or elder people

How does a Qurbani Waqf share work?
It only costs £1600 to give a Qurbani for life. Your one-off donation will be invested into our low-risk investment fund. These typically accrue around 5-7% of returns. A majority of these profits we will use towards a Qurbani next year and a portion will be re-invested back into our fund. Each year your investment will help us feed more and more families, up to 15 people per Qurbani, building on your sadaqah jariyah.
