Laylat al-Qadr, or the Night of Decree, is one of the greatest nights of the year and the most blessed in the sight of Allah.
It occurs during the month of Ramadan and holds immense virtues and blessings, as it marks the night the Qur’an was revealed.
It is a night filled with mercy, forgiveness, and opportunities for worshippers to attain immense rewards.
Virtues of Laylat Al-Qadr
Better Than a Thousand Months:
Allah says in Surah Al-Qadr: “The Night of Decree is better than a thousand months” (Qur’an 97:3).
Worship performed on this night exceeds the reward of worship carried out over 83 years.
Descent of Angels:
During this night, angels descend along with the Spirit (Gabriel) to witness acts of worship and convey prayers to Allah.
Forgiveness of Sins:
The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: “Whoever prays during the Night of Decree with faith and hoping for its reward will have their past sins forgiven.”
Decree of Affairs:
On this night, the decrees for the upcoming year, including provisions and lifespan, are decided by Allah.
Signs of Laylat Al-Qadr
Peace and Serenity:
Muslims feel a unique tranquility and spiritual comfort during this night, with hearts filled with love and devotion.
Calm Atmosphere:
The night is characterized by a serene and peaceful environment, free from strong winds or adverse weather conditions.
Bright Sunrise:
The sun rises the next morning without harsh rays, appearing soft and clear.
How to Observe Laylat Al-Qadr
Prayer (Salah):
Offering prayers, especially Qiyam-ul-Layl (night prayers), with devotion and humility is one of the best ways to observe this night.
Recitation of the Qur’an:
Engaging in the recitation of the Qur’an and reflecting on its meanings is a highly recommended act of worship.
Supplication (Dua):
Turning to Allah in sincere supplication and asking for forgiveness is essential.
A notable dua for this night is: “O Allah, You are the Forgiving, and You love forgiveness; so forgive me.”
Charity:
Giving in charity and helping those in need increases one’s rewards and brings blessings.
Remembrance of Allah (Dhikr):
Increasing remembrance of Allah and seeking forgiveness purifies the soul and strengthens the connection with the Creator.
