Rajab, the seventh month of the Islamic calendar, is a time renowned for its emphasis on virtuous deeds and charitable giving (sadaqat). Muslims are encouraged to engage in acts of kindness, increase their prayers, and support those in need, fostering a sense of community and compassion. This month serves as a reminder of the importance of self-reflection and the pursuit of righteousness, preparing believers spiritually for the upcoming month of Ramadan.

Rajab, the Month of Virtuous Deeds and Sadaqat

As the month of Rajab approaches, many Muslims sense a distinctive spiritual atmosphere due to the significance of this sacred month and the approach of the blessed month of Ramadan.

Moreover, Allah, the Almighty, has said: “Indeed, the number of months with Allah is twelve [lunar] months in the register of Allah [from] the day He created the heavens and the earth; of these, four are sacred. That is the correct religion, so do not wrong yourselves during them…” (Quran, Surah At-Tawbah: 36). In the noble Hadiths, the Prophet Mohammad – peace be upon him – explained that the consecutive sacred months are Dhul-Qi’dah, Dhul-Hijjah, Muharram, as well as the month of Rajab.

It is appropriate for the sacred month of Rajab to be welcomed with sincere intentions towards Allah, intensifying acts of worship, mending relationships, and evaluating all our deeds based on the standards of what is permissible and what is forbidden.

Among the recommended acts in the month of Rajab:

  • Refraining from Harm: It’s a direct call from Allah during the sacred months, as clarified in His words: “Do not wrong yourselves during them” (Quran, Surah At-Tawbah: 36). Causing harm to others is a pathway to self-oppression as it inevitably causes more harm and negativity. Abstaining from harm involves avoiding arguments and refraining from gossip and slander.
  • Feeding the Less Fortunate: In many teachings of the Prophet Mohammad -peace be upon him- he consistently encouraged “feeding the hungry ” and considered it one of the dearest deeds throughout the year. Thus, consider contributing to organisations supporting feeding projects or reaching out to the needy around you, especially your relatives, and assist them during this blessed month.
  • Reviving the Bond with the Quran Before Ramadan: Often, many Muslims get distracted by worldly matters and neglect their daily Quranic recitation. The month of Rajab is an excellent opportunity to strengthen the relationship with the Quran, laying the way for a more spiritual Ramadan.
  • Fasting: The Prophet – peace be upon him – recommended fasting during the sacred months as he stated: “Fast some days during the sacred months and leave others,” indicating fasting on specific days while refraining on others.
  • Supplication: It’s a commendable act of worship every day and hour, particularly during blessed days and hours.
  • Intensifying acts of Sadaqat: The benefits of giving Sadaqat is zakat pillar of islam are beyond measure, comprising immense rewards in the Hereafter, reinforcing human and social solitary concepts, alleviating people’s hardships, feeding those in need, and leaving a lasting impact on their lives.

Relieving the Needy in the Month of Rajab

One of the most impactful forms of Sadaqat is aiding those in need, providing them with the necessities of life, especially when facing challenging circumstances, such as wars, natural disasters, or spreading pandemics. Emergency relief is a humanitarian, shared obligation for all who can assist, and it presents a top priority for the International Waqf Fund.

In the blessed month of Rajab, you can contribute by donating the value of a relief Waqf share or any desired amount as Sadaqah Jariyah. We strategically invest the donations into secure, low-risk, and Sharia-compliant investments. The investments’ annual returns are used to fuel relief projects. After that, we wisely reinvest a portion of the returns, ensuring the core capital stays present and echoic of the essence and spirit of giving.

In the face of any disaster, we don’t wait to gather funds before initiating relief efforts. Instead, we utilise the returns of your Waqf shares, which grow annually, empowering us to take immediate action.

Contributing to the displaced by the war on Gaza was the latest mission funded by the returns of your Waqf shares. We swiftly intervened during the early war days and provided essential food supplies to the displaced through the Islamic Relief Office there, our parent organisation.
