charitable acts of kindness :
charitable acts of kindness : Waqf is an Arabic term for the endowment. Throughout Islamic history, Waqf donations have been used to develop and support communities. Muslims can give Waqf donations towards charitable, religious, or educational causes. Therefore, these donations are typically given as sadaqah jariyah (ongoing charity).
We often hear many charitable organizations talk about the spiritual benefits of giving to sadaqah jariyah projects. Moreover, there are many amazing sadaqah jariyah projects circulating the Muslim charity sector today. However, it’s not often that we hear about investing in a long-term, sustainable project by giving a share as a Waqf?
Waqf investments aren’t as common or well known as other sadaqah jariyah projects. However, they are a sunnah of the Prophet Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم. Here at the International Waqf Fund, we are working to revive that sunnah. In addition to ensuring your donations are real investments that continue year on year whilst providing benefit to many generations to come.
Where it all began…
At the time of the Prophet Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم. One of his companions known as Umar رضي الله عنه had asked about the land he had acquired in Khaybar (located about 150km north of Medina).
He said: “O Allah’s Messenger, I have acquired a land in Khaybar which is the most valuable property that I have ever acquired. Thus, what do you command me to do with it?”
The Prophet Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم replied, “If you wish you may make the property an endowment. In addition, you can give its produce as sadaqah. Thus, that it can no longer be bought, nor be sold, nor may it be possible to give it away or bequeath it.”
Thus, Umar رضي الله عنه gave the land as a Waqf on the conditions. Therefore, it must not be sold, inherited, or given away. For instance, with any product from the land to be used as sadaqah for poor, relatives, and emancipation of slaves, travelers, and guests.

Reviving the Sunnah of Waqf
We’ve been working to revive the sunnah of Waqf for the past 17 years under the name Islamic relief Waqf. This year we have changed our name to the International Waqf Fund. Thus, we are standing independent with the support of Islamic Relief as our parent organization.
To illustrate, when you decide to donate with the International Waqf fund your donation goes further than providing life-changing aid to just one individual, or one family or one community. Rather it transcends to multiple generations and lasts for years and years. Read more here on how we use your donation.
We aim to revive the sunnah of the Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم in regards to donating towards a Waqf. Furthermore, we aim to make sustainable Waqf donations more accessible and more common for all. Our mission is to uplift communities out of poverty through these long-term sustainable solutions that last for generations.
