Although the right to healthcare is a basic human right, and access to treatment a cornerstone of a dignified life, in many parts of the world, healthcare remains a luxury.
In remote, impoverished, or crisis-affected regions, medical needs multiply. Yet, clean, well-equipped clinics are often out of reach.
That’s where the Health Waqf Share, one of the various Waqf Shares of the International Waqf Fund, plays a vital role, offering a sustainable model to support medical services. Through investing charitable donations and directing the returns annually to humanitarian projects, this share helps save lives and restore hope.

What Is the Health Waqf Share?

The Health Waqf Share is a charitable endowment invested in Sharia-compliant ventures. Its returns are then used to fund health-related projects.
To ensure the share continues as a Sadaqah Jariyah — an ongoing charity — part of the profits are reinvested, allowing the fund to grow and continue supporting more initiatives year after year.
Every contribution to the Health Waqf Share helps patients, equips medical centres, and sustains essential healthcare projects.

The Impact of the Health Waqf Share in 2024: A Health Centre in Mali

In 2024, the International Waqf Fund financed a life-changing project in a rural village in Mali, worth £60,000, directly benefiting more than 1,700 women and children.

Before the project:
The old maternity unit was made of mud, without electricity or running water. Its roof leaked, and the walls were cracked.

Nurse Dounamba recalls:
“I used to help women give birth in the dark, using a small torch. Mothers had to walk long distances just to fetch water to wash after delivery.”

At that time, 65% of births took place outside health facilities — often on roadsides or at home — leading to high mortality rates among mothers and newborns.

After the project:

Thanks to the profits of the Health Waqf Share, a modern maternity centre was built using durable concrete. It now has clean water, solar power, a fully equipped delivery room, a medical waste incinerator, and an ambulance for emergencies.
This centre has spared mothers long, exhausting walks in search of care, saving countless lives. Healthcare workers also received specialised training in maternal and child health, as well as financial and administrative management to ensure the facility’s sustainability.
Today, childbirth in the village is safer, cleaner, and filled with hope — thanks to the generosity of Waqf donors.
