sadaqah jariyah well : Along with Covid-19 in 2020, many other crises occurred all around the world.
It was a rough year for many people, especially the most vulnerable living in rural, underfunded areas or places of conflict.
According to the World Bank, in 2020, food prices went up by 14% compared to 2019.
The UN predicts, in Yemen, over 2 million children below the age of 5 will suffer from acute malnutrition in 2021.
The refugee crisis, natural disasters, wars and other events have enhanced community islamic social solidarity.
People from all walks of life and different circumstances have come together in times of severe need to help one another.
Social Solidarity in Islam… for all Mankind :
Global social solidarity is the kind of harmony that Islam encourages regardless of people’s differences. “Allah does not forbid you from dealing kindly and fairly with those who have neither fought nor driven you out of your homes. Surely Allah loves those who are fair.” [Quran 60:8]
Islam unconditionally encourages global unity. The Prophet Muhammed (peace be upon him) said:
“No one of you becomes a true believer until he likes for his brother what he likes for himself.
” [Al-Bukhari and Muslim] Therefore, the Prophet (peace be upon him) encourages basic human rights of equality, dignity and empathy.
How does Islam encourage unity?
There are many acts of worship believers can partake in.
some are compulsory and others voluntary or recommended (fardh and sunnah acts).
Zakat is a compulsory act of charity (given one is financially able to).
Sadaqah and waqf are voluntary or recommended acts of charity that are encouraged also.
The act of giving through zakat, sadaqah or waqf brings the community together: increases love, unity, compassion and helps to take care of one another with dignity and empathy.
International Organisations Based on Islamic Solidarity
To fulfill the great, noble teachings of Islam, many organizations and institutions facilitated global social islamic solidarity such as the International Waqf Fund (IWF) and its parent organization Islamic Relief.
Therefore, IWF facilitates solidarity amongst Muslim brothers and sisters through collecting donations and investing them per Sharia regulations.
