Have you ever pondered Allah’s hidden mercy by allowing us to renew our religious rituals annually? We can use this generous opportunity to get closer to Allah, seek His blessings, and help others during His blessed days and months. Allah Ta’la says in the Quran, “That is so. And whoever honours the symbols of Allah, it is certainly out of the piety of the heart.” (Surah Al-Hajj, 22:32).
As Dhu al-Hijjah approaches, we are reminded of the Qurbani ritual, which embodies the virtues of charity, generosity, obedience, and gratitude by sharing with the less fortunate. Prophet Ibrahim (peace be upon him) taught us to fulfill Allah’s instructions, and our beloved Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) underlined the significance of adhering to his Sunnah and clarified the virtues and rules of Qurbani.
It was narrated from Aishah that the Prophet (ﷺ) said:
“The son of Adam does not do any deed on the Day of Sacrifice that is dearer to Allah than shedding blood. It will come on the Day of Resurrection with its horns and cloven hoofs and hair. Its blood is accepted by Allah before it reaches the ground. So be content when you do it.”

In Africa, poverty rates are very high, which makes most families unable to afford meat due to its high prices.
Accordingly, we have decided to carry out the Qurbani project in Mali and Niger. On behalf of the donors, we have slaughtered 209 Qurbani animals so that those in need can get meat.
Meat parcels were given to 210 families in Mali. Aisha’s family, consisting of her and her four children, was among the recipients. They live in a small, run-down house that leaks during rainy seasons.
The 30-year-old widow, Aisha, struggles to support her children with her meager earnings, barely being able to afford meat for them.
Aisha states, ” Because of these Qurbanis, we were able to fully enjoy Eid al-Adha, exactly like everyone else. My kids were overjoyed. We appreciate the kind donors.”
In the capital of Niger, Niamey, 284 families received Qurbani meat funded by the International Waqf Fund. Balqisah, a mother of three, was among the beneficiaries.
Balqisah runs a small business selling spices in her neighborhood and also does tailoring. She is the only provider for her orphaned children. Balqisah said that they eat meat once a month or on special occasions. However, in 2023, with the help of the Qurbani meat she got from the International Waqf Fund, she made her kids special Eid dinners.
Our Qurbani project assisted more than 3,000 individuals in 2023. This year, we want to reach more people, especially in war-torn countries.
