Years of conflict in South Sudan left many cultural centres in ruins. Even after some were restored, they still lacked essential resources like clean water, proper sanitation, and learning spaces for children.
In 2023, we took action by funding a project to provide safe water supplies to cultural centres in two states. The project included repairing and building water facilities, constructing a school, and installing toilets. We also harnessed solar energy to power broken equipment, transforming these mosques into vibrant prayer and community gathering centres.
The impact of providing clean water to these cultural centres extended far beyond the needs of worshippers and students. Entire communities benefited, with families who couldn’t afford to buy drinking water now accessing safe water at the cultural centres instead of relying on contaminated streams.
Water Relief in Sri Lanka
In Sri Lanka, the effects of decades of disasters, poverty, and inequality still linger. As a result, water wells often run dry, leading people to use unsafe sources for their water needs.

In 2023, the International Waqf Fund utilised the returns from your Waqf shares to finance a transformative project in Sri Lanka. The project involved the construction of a deep well and the installation of a water purification station in two regions. Each station now has the capacity to produce up to 5,000 litres of clean water daily, benefiting 800 local families by providing them with safe and affordable water.
