“Last year, the International Waqf registered my children, Tawfiq and Ali, in the orphan sponsorship project. I benefited from all the aid projects and Eid clothes, and my children were very happy. For a while, I participated in the Families Empowerment Project, and I hope to receive support so that my project becomes bigger and I rely on myself. My ambition and dream is to expand my project more and have a registered trademark and more customers, and thus increase my income, and I no longer need any help, rather I help others.” - Maha
“I am planning to start my small project and I aspire to grow it and become a workshop so that I can support myself and other people, especially since I have an accredited training certificate in the field of making dolls because I went through difficult circumstances and I want to help others to overcome difficulties” - Noha
“My dream and hobby since childhood was to make gifts and decorations for occasions and memorial items” - Basima
Situation: The economic situation has been declining in Lebanon since the 2019 protests. The Lebanese pound has dropped in value, there are a lack of economic opportunities, and the outbreak of COVID-19 has placed incredible pressure on vulnerable families, especially female-headed households.
Impact: Due to the combination of COVID-19 and the worsening economic crisis, two out of three Lebanese households are suffering from a reduced income.
Response: This project helped to support orphans, business owners and skilful workers with essential livelihood assets, equipment and materials to help boost their productivity and continue to sustain a secure means of living. The intervention has given micro-finance conditional cash grants to business owners and skillful workers (orphans and widows) to help them start or restart their businesses. The project targeted 50% from the Lebanese host community, 35% Syrian refugees and 15 Palestinian refugees.
The difference between IWF and other organisations is that IWF will invest your donations and bring a sustainable return year on year and serve people indefinitely.
