Unfortunately, a large proportion of the elderly population suffer from loss of eye sight due to an increase in cataracts. With lack of financial stability, ongoing conflict and an increase in poverty, many families are unable to afford critical operations required to save their eyesight

Sadly, hospital facilities have been damaged whilst demands continue to increase. We, therefore, provided the following equipment:

⦁ CataRhex 3 Phaco machine: Used for lens implants, these machines can be sterilized and reused to decrease the cost of operations
⦁ Slit lamps: Used to measure visual levels of patients

This project of Emergency Relief has the potential to benefit up to 1.1 million people living in Khartoum with cataracts over the coming years.

Meet Husna

Husna is a 72-year-old farmer and the sole breadwinner for her family. She told us about how she was suffering from cataracts and how much the surgery helped change her life:

“I suffered from cataracts in my right eye for five years. Last year, it got worse and I almost lost my vision. The hospital provided medical services free of charge and I had my surgery in March 2020.

Alhamdulillah it was a success. I would like to thank the donors and I hope Allah (SWT) rewards them for their good deed.”

Husna is among the thousands of people to have directly benefitted from the medical equipment we provided to the Khartoum Eye Teaching Hospital.
