The war in Ukraine has caused the rise in food prices in Iraq. With around 25% of people living below the poverty line, this caused difficulty for many whom are already struggling.
During Ramadan 2022, we assisted by using returns from Waqf shares to provide food packs. We distributed food packs to areas across Baghdad, Karbala, Fallujah, Erbil, Duhok and Diyala.
We supported female-headed houses, those with disabilities or chronic illnesses, those with school aged children not at school, vulnerable orphan families and refugees.
Food pack contents:
Item | Amount |
Rice | 5kg |
Sugar | 5kg |
Lentils | 4kg |
Dates | 3kg |
Cooking oil | 4litres |
Tomato paste | 850g |
Beans | 0.9kg |
Bulgur | 1.2kg |
Chickpeas | 1.2kg |
Tea | 400g |
“The monthly income does not cover the study expenses for orphans, in addition to the family’s needs for food, clothes and medicine, prices are constantly rising, God help.
“The food pack helped to cover the family’s needs for some foodstuffs, especially since prices rise in Ramadan for most items such as rice and cooking oil.” – Beneficiary, Maha Adnan
